We still do some things better

Much, much better than the States, where defamatory "attack ads" are now a commonplace of elections.

An election court chaired by two High Court judges has declared void the result of the general election in Oldham East and Saddleworth and has ordered it to be re-run, after ruling that Labour puke, former Immigration Minister and Shadow Home Office Minister Phil Woolas knowingly made false [not to mention racially inflammatory] statements about his LibDem rival Elwyn Watkins. Woolas won by only 103 votes.

The better news lies in the comments made to Sky by Former Lord Chancellor Charlie Falconer.

Inevitably the consequences of there being a successful challenge in an electoral court for the first time in 100 years on the basis of fraud is bound to have ramifications right through the system.

Let's hope so.
