Give the "Big Society" a rest

Says Max Hastings in the Mail. Oh yes, please.

I suppose it will be like Blair's "Third Way", otherwise known as corporativism, tarted up by Anthony Giddens to give ideas-light New Labour a patina of intellectual gravitas. We didn't hear much about it after Blair found out from his peers in Europe that the concept was not only over a century old but was also the founding principle of the European Union.

There is no bigness of spirit or of aspiration, and certainly no greatness, in modern Britain. It's a waste of time appealing to something that has been sneered into oblivion.
