Democracy doesn't cause freedom; it's the other way round. It's necessary but not sufficient. And, besides, its purpose is not to give "power to the people" its purpose (like term limits, etc) is to limit the power of government. Thanks, Aeon. It does get dispiritng seeing the same damned stupid things being said and done in the public arena, and to anyone who lived through the 60s and 70s the sense of déja vu is almost overwhelming.
Some times the same thing needs to be said many times before it gets through to enough people. These are the kind of ideas worth repeating in any case.
But yes, to give up simply because one's arguments echo in the void just hands the game over to the statist pukes, who use every opportunity to restate their nostrums and have won round after round by simply wearing people down.
