The implications of this report in the Scotsman, if true, are heartening. If Cameron has made the policy decision to disassociate the English from the moribund Scots party, it indicates a commendable grasp of realpolitik. Barring forcing Scotland into independence - which I would applaud - the next best thing is to leave the way clear for the LibDems to constitute a viable opposition to the Scottish Labour party, a corrupt bunch whose sole claim to political power is that they are the anti-Tory party.
Can an end to the absurdity of Scots MPs voting on exclusively English matters be far behind?
Shame he can't do the same for the north of England, where there is still a majority of "yellow dog" Labourites. The expression comes from the States, where white southerners would "vote for a yellow dog before they would vote for any Republican" following the Republican-run Civil War and Reconstruction.
