If there is one term that sums up the essence of Brit journopukery, it is "silly season" - the concept that with Parliament on holiday,* "serious" news is on hold and column inches have to be filled with trivia.
The fact that the rest of the world is not on holiday barely impinges. "Fog in the Channel: Europe cut off".
* the correct term is "in recession", but that would not distinguish parliament from the rest of the country.
